The cause of death of a father and his two-year-old son has been released nine months after they were found in their Geneva, New York, apartment.
The bodies of David Conte, 59, and his son, David Conte Jr., were discovered in an apartment on Hamilton Street on Feb. 15, 2022, according to a news release from the Ontario County Sheriff’s Office.
Once they were found, investigators told reporters that they could not find an obvious cause of death and that there was no visible evidence of trauma to their bodies.
On Monday, deputies announced that Conte Sr. died of natural causes due to cardiovascular disease.
His son died of starvation a short time later, deputies said.

The press release states: “It is believed that Mr. Conde died first and the child was unable to receive any nourishment after the death of his father.”
When the bodies were found, deputies told reporters they were contacted to visit the apartment for a welfare check after there had been no sign of the father and son for about a week.
They were discovered in the bedroom of the apartment, Lt. Joe Murphy said Tuesday.

The Democrat and Chronicle reported that investigators said Conde Sr. she had won custody of the two-year-old shortly after his birth.
Ontario County Sheriff’s Lt. David Cirencione said the mother does not appear to be having contact with the child, according to the report.
The investigation into their deaths has officially been closed, deputies said Monday.
Conde Jr.’s obituary she describes him as “a handsome little boy with curly locks, who had a determined smile and a sweet disposition.”
He also notes that he recently learned to walk, after several surgeries and months of casts and rehabilitation, despite his medical condition at birth.
A memorial service was held for Conde Jr. on March 16, 2022 at Covert Funeral Home in Ovid.
He is survived by his mother, Michelle Travers, and her partner, Marshall Watson, of Newark;
The two-year-old also had six siblings, Caden, Rickey, Ryan, Justin, Julian and Kayshaun. as well as a sister, Kiera.
