The new trail bike will replace the outgoing SB140 and SB130. It is similar in rear travel to the previous model, but has been developed around the same 29-inch wheel size as the SB130. However, the SB140LR will also be available in a 27.5-inch wheel size. The model will be available in two types of construction (the SB140 and SB140LR) and two types of carbon frame rate. Availability is from January 20, 2023. The Lunch Ride (LR) will feature a more aggressive 160mm front fork, as opposed to the SB140’s 150mm. Other differences include fatter tires and more powerful brakes on the Lunch Ride.

Geometry updates

SB140

Yeti has increased the front center by 7mm, from 795mm on the previous model to 802mm on the new SB140 in size large. Reach remains similar, increasing by 0.5mm. Like all recent Yeti models, the SB140 will have size-specific chainstay lengths and seat tube angles. Chain lengths range from 436mm to 444mm, aiming for consistent geometry across all sizes. Actual seat tube angles range from 72.2 degrees to 73.7 degrees, but the actual seat tube angle remains the same at 77.5 degrees across all sizes – depending on saddle height. Seat tube lengths have been shortened to allow longer dropper posts on all models. Yeti has added an extra-large frame and removed the ultra-small size from its lineup. The new small size has a 10mm longer seat tube than the previous extra small. The head tube angle remains at 65 degrees.

SB140LR

Similar to the SB140, the SB140LR has a longer front center than its predecessor, growing by 6mm from 800mm to 806mm in an oversized frame. The distance is marginally shorter by 0.1 mm. Chainstay lengths range from 436mm to 444mm, again with the aim of delivering proportional geometry. Seat tube angles range from 71.8 degrees to 73.3 degrees, with an actual seat tube angle of 77 degrees. The head tube angle remains at 65 degrees. The Lunch Ride will also be available with 27.5-inch wheels. There has been no word from Yeti on the changes it will make to the geometry.

SB140 and SB140LR suspension details

The Lunch Ride gets a Float X rear shock. Yeti Circles

Both bikes will feature 140mm of frame travel with a 14 percent leverage controlled by Yeti’s Switch Infinity suspension system. The SB140LR will use a Fox Float X, as opposed to the Float DPS featured on the SB140. The system works by placing the main axis of rotation on a ‘shuttle’. The bus rides up and down on two Kashima-coated struts built into the frame, giving a rearward path to the axle in the suspension travel. Yeti says this improves pedaling performance. The T series will feature an updated Switch Infinity system. Yeti Circles Yeti says it has changed the chassis architecture by putting the Switch Infinity in a tighter package. Ground clearance and chassis stiffness are said to have increased with the redesign. T Series models will be equipped with an updated Switch Infinity system, which Yeti says will have improved seals, bearings and hardware.

Frame improvements

The two-layer down tube protection is replaceable.

Yeti Circles The new cable ports are said to eliminate cable chafing. Yeti Circles The threaded aluminum bottom bracket is co-molded to the frame. Yeti Circles Yeti has revised the downtube protection, now using a two-layer system. It says the rubber bottom protector provides a cushion to the frame, while an outer hard cap provides impact protection. The system is replaceable and the hard cover is removable to help with cable routing. Yeti claims to have eliminated cable rattles and chafing by installing secure ports on inner cable tubes. The threaded aluminum bottom bracket is now co-molded to the frame’s carbon assembly, as seen on the new SB160 and SB120. Yeti says this makes the interface more durable and easier to service.

There will be five build options for the SB140. Three of these will be built around the top-of-the-range Turq frame. The other two will use the C-series frame. The T-series bikes will also get a Fox Transfer dropper. All SB140s will feature Fox 36 forks with 150mm of travel and will be available in Turquoise, Sangria, Sage and Raw Carbon.
