The decision came two days after a pre-sale event caused the website to crash and left many fans without tickets. The ticketing company said in a statement on Thursday that two million tickets for next year’s The Eras tour were sold during the pre-sale on Tuesday, the most tickets ever sold on the platform in one day. Ticketmaster cited “extremely high demands on ticketing systems and insufficient remaining ticket inventory to meet that demand” as the reason for canceling Friday’s sale. Questions remain about how – and how much – the remaining tickets will be sold. But Ticketmaster said about 1.5 million fans who had gone through an early verification process – called Verified Fan – were invited to buy tickets and the remaining 2 million were put on a waiting list. A spokesman for the company said Ticketmaster is not involved in reselling tickets for Ms. Swift’s shows. It’s been a record-breaking year for Swift since the release of her latest album Midnightwhich also broke a Billboard record. The 52-date Eras tour kicks off on March 17th in Glendale, Arizona and wraps up with five shows in Los Angeles ending on August 9th. International dates will also be announced. It is Ms. Swift’s first tour since 2018. But fans and families across the country are battling long lines and error messages to try to get to the shopping cart. Ticketmaster said the site was being overwhelmed by both real people and bot attacks resulting in unprecedented traffic to their site. The statement said about 15 percent of interactions with the site had problems, including errors that caused people to lose tickets after waiting in an online queue. “While it’s impossible for everyone to get tickets to these shows, we know we can do more to improve the experience and that’s what we’re focused on,” the company said in a statement.
