The 18-year-old, best known for her role as Kelly Neelan in Coronation Street, will take on her new role as the Doctor’s 15th companion, named Ruby Sunday. The news was revealed live on Children In Need as Gibson stepped out of the Tardis. She will star alongside Sex Education actor Nctui Gatwa, 30, who was named the new Doctor earlier this year. The pair will embark on a new set of adventures with the first episode of Gatwa airing during the festive season in 2023. Gibson said in a statement that she is “beyond honored” to be cast as the Doctor’s new companion. “It’s a gift of a role and a dream come true and I’ll do anything to try and fill the boots that fellow travelers have walked in before me. “What better way to do that than to be alongside the wonderful Ncuti Gatwa, I just can’t wait to get started.” Gatwa took to Instagram to congratulate his co-star and said, “So excited to travel the universe and fight monsters with this. Trust me, we have so much in store.” Gibson picked up the award for best young performer for her role as Kelly Neelan in Coronation Street at The British Soap Awards earlier this year.
